I recently came across more than a couple of companies that have appointed Chief Innovation Officers, (CINO) a role which I find to be an anomaly. Why? Well, to me, it’s an admission that these companies don’t understand the importance of innovation and so carve-out this responsibility and assign a caretaker. It looks like Marissa Mayer will be another high-profile CEO casualty. Mayer was appointed CEO of Yahoo in July 2012, after a 13-year career at Google.
